Editions Introduction

The following editions present arrangements of the popular classical pieces that most bassist may instantly recognize. Some of these pieces may already exist in arrangements for bass, while some other may be available here for the first time. However, they are all chosen for their likeability and recognizable melodies. These pieces may be well suited for collegiate juries, recital programs and certainly encore pieces. The difficulty level of these arrangements varies, but is generally suited to the collegiate level.

The editing applied in these compositions was minimal from the point of altering the original melody and accompaniment, yet the pieces are nevertheless arranged to underline the unique capabilities of double bass. Some of these pieces are designed to match well the available harmonics on double bass and such an arrangement was implemented in order to underline the soloistic capacity of bass in the same way that some compositions of Bottesini and Sperger feature harmonics.

The editing articulations have been minimized, and where present these are often printed discretely in brackets and only as a suggestion, while leaving freedom to the performer to find their own fingering and bowing solutions as well.

Lastly, should you find any of these compositions enticing for a public performance that may result in a decent audio or video recording, please contact ABP and we will be honored to list the link of your performance within the entry area of each composition and certainly as an honor to your purchase and invested effort.
